ABOLITIONIST MOVEMENT
John Brown John Brown was an abolitionist. When he grew up he helped in the escape of several slaves. John and his five sons moved to that Kansas after the Kansas-Nebraska act. When they arrived there was a lot of conflict between people who approved of slavery and the people who did not. So, John elected himself the “captain” of the anti-slavery forces in Osawatomie Creek. By 1858, John had succeeded in creating a small army of abolitionists. Brown had the idea to take control of the federal stockpile. Unfortunately, Brown and his men were overrun and ten of them killed. Brown was captured and went to trial. He was tried and was hung for treason. The North was reinvigorated and the south realised that all that happened after his death was the spirit to fight for the North. From Pbs.com, Brown was allowed to make a speech: “Now, if it deemed necessary that I should forfeit my life for the furtherance of the ends of justice, and mingle my blood further with the blood of my children, and with the blood of millions in slave country whose rights are disregarded by unjust enactments, I submit: so let it be done.”
